10/3/06 - Portland Head Light

Several viewers asked to see a B&W version of this foggy night time shot. Here it is. A 15 second exposure with a wide open aperature.
I really like the opportunity to make images like this. As I drove through the dark the final 1/2 mile to the light on a narrow dark road, the flash of the light was my only clue that I was in the right place - 1st visit to Portland. When I got out of the car, the dark foggy night with a fog horn sounding brought back lots of memories (memories of standing officer of the deck watches on navy destroyers long ago and far away and viewing lights from the seaward side). If only I didn't have to get up so darn early in the morning to do this - although I guess it's an improvement over getting up to stand a mid-watch or 4-8 watch in the "good old days".

Ed this subject is almost a cliche. But doing this on a foggy morning in B&W is very original. Great shot.

Excellent shot. I really like the texture of the rocky coast.

That is a very photogenic lighthouse! I love the composition and BW treatment :-)
