Out early, as usual, for a PAD. Passed the pond just at sunrise. Geez, do I want to waste time with the GBH again? Why not, then we'll go get something good.
The reflection of the sun was just hitting the far side of the pond when the GBH started stretching its wings. This unusual pose plus the golden pond made it today's PAD. Two others of the GBH at http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/48603642 and http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/48603640
This shot is a good example of extremely difficult lighting that almost begs for sophisticated post-processing in order to keep the highlights under control while simultaneously showing the shadow detail. As taken by the camera, the entire bird was one black silhouette.
And then I moved on. Lots of neat things to see and I ended up with an overabundance of riches. That's the way it usually is - feast or famine. For five more, try here plus the next four "next" after you get there - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/48603629
