1/20/05 - Appleseed Macro Macro

After the life size shot of the apple stem yesterday, today I decided to try a larger than life size view of an apple seed (after cutting the apple in half). This is 40% larger than life size - the seed is about 1/4" long. The photo is not cropped. The total width of the apple covered by this image is less than 3/4 inch (about 2 cm?). Used a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter with the Nikkor 105mm 1:1 micro lens. The shiny area toward the pointy end of the seed is a window reflection. The detail available when zooming in is amazing; hundreds of tiny drops of moisture are clearly visible beneath the surface of the seed. A tripod was used.

Nikon D70 ,1.4x teleconverter
5s f/22.0 at 105.0mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Fantastic macro. You did well to get so much in focus, you must be dealing with very small DOF.
