Call me dumb, but I finally figured out that the best colors are before the sun actually rises. OK, up 30 minutes earlier - as if getting up for sunrise wasn't early enough. When I retired, I was planning to sleep late.
This is another "extend the dynamic range" shot - shoot one for the shadows and one for the highlights and then combine the best of each by using a density mask.
