8/24/04 - Queen of the Night

The Night Blooming Cereus. Blooms for about 8 hours one night a year. For a time sequence from bloom beginning to open (here) to fully opened see http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/night_blooming_cereus

The 2 blooms you're looking at are 4-5 inches long and fully opened they were about 6-8 inches across. Beautiful & very exotic.

Nikon D70
1/60s f/8.0 at 105.0mm with Flash full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Beautiful flower - althoguh i think i like it better unfurled like this. The way the colorful outside swirls envelope the cream-colored bud... Very nice composition too

Great photo. We used to have one of these but it died--they have a good fragrance too, don't they?
