7/15/04 - On the Street Where I Live

Experimenting with IR. The Harrison filter works, but I need to learn more about post-processing the image. Much better with the 5700 than with the D70 (using the same Harrison IR filter for both - 52mm adaptor for the 5700; 105mm macro on D70 takes 52mm filters directly).

Any IR suggestions? Particularly post-processing. Here I simply extracted the luminance channel, extended the levels to cover the entire histogram, and applied a mild USM.

Ed, nice shots. I've been playing with IR recently too, with a Hoya 89B filter. You asked for post-processing suggestions -- I set a custom white balance on my D70, shoot in RAW and then do a little bit of color adjustment later, just to make things pop a bit more. The skies turn a lovely goldenrod color and the trees seem to glow blue-ish white from within. You might try it. Thanks for showing your images. ~g

Whatever makes you happy. Nice to be able to pick and choose if you're able. For the rest of us, we gotta do what we gotta do.

nice subdivision. it's sad that some people in the world have to live like that. i think i'd rather live in a shack between gas pipelines than in this homegenous world of identical existences.
