Month #59 - Retrospective of Daily Photos posted from 5/04 to 12/09 (most viewers for the month)
I've always enjoyed experimenting - not just with photography but experimental imaging is a fertile area for trying different approaches. Back in spring 2009 I was playing with using textured glass placed between the camera and the subject. Lots of wild results. This is a fairly straight forward shot. Here's what I wrote in 3/09 when posting this image -
03/17/09 - Through Rippled Glass
One last montage of the tulips in my sun room - one exposure shot through a piece of rippled clear glass and the 2nd a straight shot (both against a black backdrop). I like this glass for the way that it picks up side reflections and spreads the colors around.
There are two hard things with these shots through glass. One is controlling the glare & reflections - especially with glass like this piece that has very deep texture. I can't always tell exactly where the light & reflections are coming from - much less do anything about them. The 2nd difficulty is arranging the combination of boxes and things that I use to get the flowers, glass, backdrops, diffusion disks, and on & on all at the right heights relative to one another. One day there's going to be a big crash.
