Month #47 - Retrospective of Daily Photos posted from 5/04 to 12/09 (most viewers for the month)
March 2008 - Made on my several-times-a-month trips to Shenandoah NP where I'm a volunteer photographer (like Ansel was ;-) In 3/08, 4 years into my photographic journey, I'm comfortable with most outdoor image situations and with my "own skin". This viewer's choice is the type of scene that I like and "see" almost instinctively. It took four years to get here. Here is what I wrote when posting this photo in 3/08 -
3/5/08 - Misty "S", v2
Here is the landscape orientation version of this image posted earlier today - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/93791917 It is interesting how different two versions of the same scene can be from simply flipping the camera.
Notice that the fog here is higher than in the previous version and partially exposes the bottoms of the distant trees. That works well here since it helps to know that the trees are there, but I prefer the low fog with the trees popping from the top and muted bottoms for the vertical version - if nothing else it helps to fill a void in the center of the image. In either case the fog adds a sense of mystery.
To me this horizontal version is more relaxing and the vertical is more dynamic.
Sorry for the double PAD post. Several weeks later - a sepia version http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/94816702
