Sunrise from atop the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia - Buck Hollow Overlook, Shenandoah NP. I'd been here over 30 minutes by this time - freezing to death. When the sun peaked over the horizon I placed a bunch of stuff I'd been holding on a stone wall in front of me and focused on getting some shots. Just as I took this one a huge gust of wind blew my stuff (a couple hundred $ of gear) off the wall toward the edge of a steep slope. Fortunately everything got caught at the base of a large boulder at the edge of the slope and I was able to hop the wall and rescue everything. The sun moves surprisingly far in a short time and was above the horizon by the time I got back to the camera. Lots of fun.
It's interesting how the ridges in the Piedmont below look like waves in the ocean.
