A grove of small black locust trees growing at the edge of the Big Meadows parking area in Shenandoah National Park. The grove is filled with wildflowers and the tree trunks are covered with lichen. It can be made to look like a surreal moody spot on the right kind of day (foggy/rainy like today). Without selective framing and composition - to the naked eye of a park visitor - it wouldn't get a second (or maybe even a first) glance.
I processed this using the Nik Color Efex Pro Polaroid Transfer filter. I erased the filter's effect for the gnarly lichen covered trunk that forms the right side frame and from the pink thistles which are my foreground element (to add an anchor, interest and depth). The rest is made soft by the filter (it was actually pretty soft in reality between the rain & fog), plus the filter provided the arty border.
