mandala - (mun´ d l, mahn dä´ lä) [Sanskrit- circle, center] a traditional design often utilizing the circle—symbol of the cosmos—and the square—symbol of the man-made world. Mandalas generally exhibit a center, radial symmetry, and cardinal points.

I've been reading a book (Perception & Imaging - by Zakia) and was reminded of this image style. Decided to try making one. Started with this image -- http://ed-k-photo.smugmug.com/gallery/6988948_kjHp8/1/531676062_hCA7F/Original -- and cropped the top off to form a square; next flipped and rotated the square into all 8 possible orientations; last overlaid and blended those 8 images into this composite. Nothing special but it was interesting. I'll experiment with other starting images when there's a free moment.
