1/13/09 - Lumix FZ28 Test Photo

I've been thinking about getting a walk-around 2nd camera for the occasion when the D300 plus about 25 pounds of gear is overkill. Picked up the Lumix FZ28 yesterday on sale and gave it a try this morning until my fingers froze. I really like the results and figure that they can only get better once I read the manual and use it properly (this was hand held with IS on - I think).
Note the 6 mallards hanging out in the center of the geese. Their legs illustrate the power of certain colors to draw the eye - proportion & dominance >> something dominant (shape and or color) will catch the eye even if it's proportionally a very small part of the image (way less than 1% here). That's why bright "blowouts" in the background are so obvious (and bad -distractions that take the viewers eye away from the subject).
Here is a gallery with seven examples from this morning. A little of everything - landscape, macro, wildlife and action -- http://ed-k-photo.smugmug.com/gallery/6743129_wZgCB#454463430_dLyEg

Nice shot. The mallards make it interesting.
I have a G9 for this purpose!
