11/29/08 - Tis the Season (to do shoot-throughs)

Another shoot-through. 100% in-camera (except RAW conversion). Again, for a how-to see http://ed-k-photo.smugmug.com/gallery/6430099_RkaPU#425136487_Q2uER
Apart from the subject, everything in this image except for the dark lower right corner is *foreground* material - not background - resting against the face of a macro lens which is focused on the subject. It takes a lots of fussing to get the "haze" to fall "just-so" and then, as often as not, it still doesn't look good. The view through the viewfinder isn't always what you get with this technique and so you shoot lots of them hoping for a few keepers. A recent discovery now that I've got a camera with "live view" - live view helps a lot for getting the subject in focus (it's too hard to see it clearly through the viewfinder). I discovered that *after* taking making this image.
