11/13/08 - Misty Rainy Late Fall

Nothing special; just in the mood for a moody pretty image with lots of atmosphere. Took a drive in the driving rain (that's what a driving rain is for; no?) to the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills at the edge of Shenandoah National Park. This is near the vicinity of the lower end of the White Oak Canyon trail.
A photographer recently asked me how I get my misty images and I was at a loss for what to say - how about the obvious like going out on a misty, foggy, rainy day. He was surprised - and I was surprised that he was surprised. A trick question, maybe?
Plastic bags, camera rain-coats, towels, plus half a role of paper towels - it was a challenging day for keeping the gear dry. In six hours hours and about 60 images (two cameras - the D300 for normal shots and D70 for IR - equal usage) I only lost 6 images - three due to water on the lens face and three due to the camera rain-coat getting in the frame.
