11/1/08 - Gerbera Trips

Part of an idea I'm exploring for a portfolio - flower triptychs each showing a different view and/or a different style/technique of the same flower. Here we see 3 versions of the same Gerbera. At the left is a normal "pose". The center is a different view & different technique (done entirely in-camera with natural light - the colored "haze" is from another flower held close to the lens of a wide open macro lens which is focused on the more distant subject). On the right we have the same technique as employed for the center version, but here it's a macro version of the same flower.

I wondered where you were going with the recent multiple views. :)

Definitely a strong idea to pursue! A workshop I attended recently emphasized concept photography as a powerful way to engage the viewer, because then they don't have to "start over" when viewing each individual image. I take that to mean that within a context, the viewer can more fully appreciate the differences -- and what those differences say or reveal about the subject.
