Shot this with a 70-300 lens which I used since it has a lens collar and rotating the lens for this "rotate & zoom" multiple exposure is much easier with the collar. Since it's a telephoto, I'm actually about 15 feet away from this flower bed (black eyed susans, shasta daisies, pink & white cone flowers and pink geraniums are all in this image). Technique - camera on tripod; make 10 exposures keeping the subject centered while zooming and rotating the lens between each exposure. The resulting image will look dramatically different depending on how much you rotate and/or zoom between exposures.
This is a 10 shot in-camera D300 multiple exposure. Yesterday's PAD was done the same way & I wondered how the image would look if done by zooming during a single long exposure. And the answer is - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/100791928
