Lesser Prairie Chickens

At one of several workshops, Noppadol Paothong led four of us photographers to watch, to photograph, to learn about, and to experience the wonder of prairie grouse during their mating habits. At this particular workshop about the Lesser Prairie Chickens, for three days we saw most, if not all behavior patterns shown by the males and females. They boomed, postured, leapt into the air, stamped their feet, fanned their tails, displayed and fought passionately, bowed, mated, shook their feathers, raised their pinnae, expanded their eye combs, boomed, gobbled, and cackled in an ongoing spectacular sight. Enjoy the photographs I made during the times we visited the lek.
