This photo shows one of the farmers who discovered the vaults with the terra cotta warriors. He now signs hundreds of books per day, the revenue of which has improved the quality of his life. Even so, being famous can become tedious, and today he felt grumpy. He uses the fan to cover his face from photographers. He signed quickly his last book before rising to temporarily walk away from it all. I walked up to him and handed him a pencil, which he took -- grumpily -- and inspected. He raised the pencil and pointed it at me, gave me a big smile, and stretched out his hand. I took his soft hand and shook it hard, then left him.
