A few days in the Lake District using Keswick as the base from which to go exploring. Weather was perfect.
Day 1 - Up The Old Man of Coniston, traverse the ridge to Swirl How, then down the Prison Band, up to Wetherlam and then down into Coniston for a decent pint at The Black Bull Inn before heading back to Keswick.
Day 2 - From Buttermere to Scale Force and then clamber up to Red Pike, rising up to High Stile, down to High Crag, across to Seat, around the rear of Hay Stacks and Green Crag , across to Hopper Quarry, and down towards Honister Hause. At this point as time was against us we abandoned the plan to head up to Dale Head to then take the path to Hindscarth and Robinson before descending to Buttermere, preferring instead to take the B5289 road down to Buttermere, where we joined the path around the Lake's perimeter back to Wilkinskye Farm and just beyond, after a long day's walk, to the The Bridge pub for a refreshing pint before heading back to Keswick.
Day 3 - A decent walk around Grizedale Forest Park, where a number of walking and cycling routes beckon. Differently graded, we went for the longest and more strenuous "green" route. Dotted along the route is a variety of intriguing sculptures variously located / hidden. On the way back to Keswick we stopped off in Hawkshead to enjoy a quality pint in The King's Arms (a 500 year old pub).
[No complaints from me regarding the real ale at the following Keswick pubs either...Keswick Lodge Hotel, The Oddfellow Arms, the Dog and Gun, the Bank Tavern, and Ye Old Golden Lion.]
