Tryfan Bychan.jpg

Snowdonia National Park, Wales

I'd erroneously referred to the above as being the Idwal slabs but have been corrected by one helpful viewer, who identifies the above as Tryfan Bychan (see comment below for further informaton). Cwm Idwal offers many a climber a decent weekend break (no pun intended).

Slabs, by the way, are the product of glacial movement and erosion exposing bedding planes...and they cry out to be climbed, which is something I've not yet done...

I like this gallery very much. It reminds me of many happy times in the area. However, this picture is not actually Idwal Slabs - the Slabs are about a mile away overlooking Llyn Idwal, as seen on your next two pictures, and three or four times taller than these.

The slabs here are, in fact, Tryfan Bychan ("Little Tryfan"). They are a good place to practice climbing before venturing on the main Slabs, as my brother taught my son 30-odd years ago -http://www.pbase.com/gerrywinterbourne/image/60822906
