The philistine in me says that the bloke with the green face reminds me of Brian's ex-girlfriend in "Spaced", whilst the make-up of the 'girl' looks like it's been done by the same people that made-up "Pauline" (she of the pens) in The League of Gentlemen.
In fact, this is the Kathakali show at the Kerala Kathakali Centre at Fort Cochin. A thirty minute drive from the Taj Residency and 100 rupees later will see you in a small room where Jayanthan (green face) and Lalitha (yellow face) meet and court each other and disaster. Much warbling, cymbol-clashing, drumming, and occasional yelping later and Jayanthan cuts off Lalitha's ears, nose and breasts with his sword. Figuratively speaking.
Outside the heavens opened up with rain and thunder, as if to bemoan the outrage of Lalitha having stormed the heavens (for Lalitha is actually the demon Nakrathundi in disguise!) or because the performance was so poor that it needed to be drowned out and washed away.
Be assured that the bloke on the right-hand side does not normally look like an extra out of a Nick Park Wallace & Gromit stop-motion & clay animation feature!
