I went to Finals Day at this pre-Wimbledon tournament in the beautiful setting of Calderstones Park, Liverpool (literally 1 minute from Strawberry Fields and Mendips, where John Lennon grew up). I grew up in the area and played tennis as a youth on the municipal courts behind this main court, I never imagined that one day there would be a professional tournament here. That it is now in its 8th year and getting higher ranked players, both male and female, and also having a number of players continue to return, is testament to the hard work and endeavour of Anders Borg and his team. The serious tennis was great but a highlight was Alan Mills, ex Wimbledon referee, having a bit of a knock up and then falling flat on his backside!
