From San Luis we diverted off our route to Taos and took Hwy 142 through Manassa (home of Jack Dempsey, the "Manassa Mawler" of boxing fame) and on to Romeo where we connected to Hwy 285. The diversion allowed us a straighter path to Ojo Caliente and the Ghost Ranch in New Mexico.

In Conejos we stopped at the oldest church in Colorado, Our Lady of Guadalupe, built in 1858.
