Orchidaceae form the largest family of flowering plants in the world. There are possibly 35,000 species of orchids known to science. Orchids are perennial plants found growing in a wide variety of situations and habitats all over the world. Orchids are found in tropical forests and high on alpine mountains, from the Equator to the Arctic.
Orchids pictured in this gallery are both tropicals in my personal collection or native species I have found in Northwestern Ontario, Minnesota, or Norway.
