Today was spent entirely on or near Floreana, one of the earliest inhabited islands of the Galapagos. An early morning wet landing at Punta Cormorant allowed a hike to a brackish lagoon with flamingos and other waterfowl. A panga ride around the nearby Champion Island gave the only opportunity to see the nearly extinct Floreana (Charles) Mockingbird. The afternoon started with a drive and hikes in the highlands and was our only opportunity to see the endemic Medium Tree Finch. We finished the day at the seaside Wittmer Hotel, enjoying cold drinks and learning about the early history of the island.
