Egg for breakfast, anyone?

Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), male (distinguished by its red neck).
As far as I can see, it's feeding the chickens w/ eggshell (!), possibly robbed from some other birds nest, but it may also have found it on the ground somewhere...
A varying diet obviously, as the growing nestlings also need calcium, I suppose.
