The Aldeyjarfoss surroundings is like a landscape from "The Lord of the Rings".
Note the small white-waters in the lower right corner, coming right out of the rocks! The region is dominated by the river Skjálfandafljót
that flows along Barðardalur, a valley cutting through the 100 km long lava field Barðarhraun, created when lava flowed northerly from
a massive eruption from the Trölldyngja volcano in the interior landscapes, just after the end of the last ice age, some 10 000 years ago.
