McCaw: "Portland is one of my favorite cities, it is a place with a lot of soul. It is also Ground Zero for craft beer, there seems to be no end to the number of craft breweries in this city, which the locals refer to as "PDX" after its airport identification letters.
Oregon was a bastion of the counterculture back in the 60's and 70's and it seems that the better parts of that ethos have filtered down into Portland's politics, so there is good transit, an extensive network of bike routes, a miles-long waterfront park/walkway along the Willamette River, and one of the best bookstores in the world, Powell's City of Books.
