1948 Fraser River flood, horses, Fraser Valley
"THE FLOOD HORSES (by E. Bougie Gilligan)
We are the flood horses. White and clean,
we can swim the meadow as easily as we cantered the meadow.
Send us yet more water and we will arc over
your barbed wire fences, like long-legged dancers.
You might never see us again, we would be
gone, like the Fraser River,
pouring down the way
to freedom."
