I just saw a snake at Caladesi Island that had a beautiful black head and neck about 8 inches long and the remainder of it (about 2 and 1/2 feet) was greyish brownish with a slight pattern. Does this sound like the eastern coachwhip? would it like that kind of area with palmettos and grasses and sand?

they looked awfully big when i was a little girl Question: We called 'em 'coachwhips' but did they ever really use them some way for whips? I was/am very literally-minded.......

I just saw this snake but only this one was half jet black and the other part was this brown tan color....while sitting in my garage it started to go on the car porch but I must' of startled it when jumped up and ran in house and started to close the garage down it started to wiggle fast back in the grass... Now I'm scared to go out side .

Do nothing. They are not interested in you. They are looking for food.

Saw one of these yesterday (12/27/14) in Withlacoochee Forest. It was at least 5 feet long.
