I understand that all spiders are poisonous, but most can't bite. The crab spider as above are common in South Florida. I have seen these all my life in patios and mango trees, but for some reason, there seems to be many more around this year. They are harmless.

We enjoyed its company for several months but recently it's gone. Does it make an egg case and die? Would like info.

We enjoyed this guest for several months and just noticed it has gone. Does it lay an egg case and then die? Can't find any info. We potected it and looked for it every morning. Believe it stayed on our balcony because we often left the light on. Thoroughly enjoyed its company. Alva of Nalpes

I live in Jay, about 25 miles north of Pensacola. I see them in the woods all the time. I make sure to not disturb their web so they can catch more insects.

One of these just showed up on my balcony in Orlando, FL. What a cool looking spider! Actually looked this one up before deciding not to kill it. He will be fighting the sticky foot frogs for meals around the light. Haha!

I was told this was a crab spider. Very interesting creatures. One was webbed between the roof and my deck railing for days. I accidentally detached his web that was attached to the railing, and he sucked up the loose web in a matter of seconds. It was really amazing to watch. Their webs are very geometrical with "double stitching" in parts for stability. He re-spun his web to almost the same spot. Out of curiosity, I detached his web again, and he sucked up the loose web again, and he then attached it to a higher place. Very smart spider!

I have this spider and it's web (appx 4 ft wide) in my garden. It's so beautiful I can only admire it. I have pictures of its patterns and plan to use them in my art painting and mathematical studies.

Looks similar to one with a big web in our yard but the spider isn't big. He sits in the middle of it all day long. My husband calls it a "Statue of Liberty" spider!

I have one on my house, trailer, tree arrangement. Its huge. At-least 6 feet wide and 6 feet tall. Its one of the coolest spiders I've seen since I have been in Florida, 6 months.

We have these and other spiders all year in our pool enclosure in Seminole County. Right now (late October) we seem to have a ton of little spiders out there.

I found one of these, did not know if it was poisonous... I took a picture and sent it to my grandma and she looked it up and found this page for me all about Florida spiders... I let it go because it was a neat spider. I hope to keep finding more spiders so I can find information on them and let them go and become more informed on spiders in Florida...

They are poisonous, but it doesn't have an effect on humans. They're quite docile too. I was actually handling one a minute ago. As with most spiders, so long as you don't pick them right off of their web and they don't feel threatened, they won't bite

I just moved in to a new place and there are dozens on the wooden framework around my front porch. It's a perfect area for spinnng webs. I'm absolutely amazed how these little beautifully colored dots can spin such perfect and widespread webs. Just last night I saw a new one hanging by a singe strand, only to find a perfect web 6hrs later when I awoke in the morning. Luckily I have no pets or kids, so I just let them be. Never knew there name before. Thanx for the info & amazing pic!

We have a horse all swollen up in the front and we think she was bitten by a spider and we found a bunch that looked similar to this picture. We are in Marion Co, are they in our territory? Would they cause this? Their webs are in the fence rows and shade trees. Thanks
Barbara 07-Oct-2012 17:11
