These are not "slender" snakes but more full bodied and their skin is a beautiful indigo black / purple shimmering in sun like an oil slick.

Brought the dog out for her morning walk, she was just about to squat and 2 ft away were 2 black snakes sidld up to each other ( I'm assuming to breed). They didn't move or try to get away so I called the dog back and we left them to their business. They were a very brilliant cole of black, slender, about 4 ft in length

Do they have a blue marking on the side of the head -- perhaps the eye? I have one on our pool deck. Want to make sure it's not poisonous. I'm trying to guide it out the door and off the deck but it persists in slithering along the screen and curls up and tries to bite the foam flotation bar I'm using to try to guide it.

No they are not poisonous, in fact they are an endangered species and need to be protected. Very beautiful and very docile.
