This is looking down rather than up the path to Montesenario, a monastery about 20 km north of Florence founded in the 13th century. It is remote, set at the top of a ridge overlooking the whole region, & we saw almost no one there. The straight path was the original road for pilgrims of high & low estate, prior to the modern road that follows the ridge.
