Yellowstone National Park

We have been fortunate enough to make several trips West to Yellowstone, a place of unusual geology and beauty that we love. These images are from the trips made in 2002 - 2004; a separate gallery is available for the 2005 trip. The images have been made in a wide gamut of weather conditions, from blizzards to bright sunshine, hot weather to below freezing. All of the occurences may happen during any one trip to this wonderful ecosystem, but over several trips the variety is infinite.

Terry: I'm msybe s third of the way through the first pass. I find my criteria are getting "tougher" before I'll invest the time to process an image, particulary if I have another similar image. I have yet to finish the geyser shots in Yellowstone, have a couple of hundred more elk images, many buffys, and have yet to begin the antelope images. There are some more moose images of a "little boy" who intruded into a scenic composition in The Tetons i have yet to decide if I will do something with that. It was a special moment for us, but photographically I think the images fall flat (found my self set up for scenices without the lens I would have santed for wildlife, etc. (Lesson learned the hard way).

Considering the quality of the imagery you and Terry exhibit consistently, this is high praise indeed. Should I assume the narrative was adequate to follow the action depicted in these images?

David, I agree with Terry. I would like to add that your photos here portray the very essence of what wildlife photography is all about, capturing the life of these incredible animals.

Terry: Thanks for the comments; glad people are enjoying the narrative and images. One big plus from the friends forum is the opportunity to include a narrative to help explain the sequence of events and situation around these images. I tried to simplify as much as possible the interactions among the three bulls involved so peopole could understand the sequence of events. Thought you might like these images. The fight sequence was awe-inspiring; these bulls clearly do not like each other. The two fights (back-to-back) consumed about thirty minutes each, and the losing bull in fight 2 (who won fight 1) was clearly gassed, as the close-up shows. A little spooky working in relatively close proximity to hormone-crased animals (particularly BIG ANIMALS) but the results are clearly worth it; ...AND YES I ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE OPEN FOR WHATEVER IS BEHIND ME!
