Yes this is a handheld image. I have found, with controlled breathing (i.e., exhaling slowly while releasing the shutter) I can take acceptable images with the Sigma 400mm APO Macro D at shutter speeds as slow as 1/125 second, as long as there is good light. This image of an Aphrodite (a type of Frillitary Butterfly) was taken outside the greenhouses on the campus of Southern Illinois University, where I teach. The horticulture plots maintained as teaching labs for students are a real butterfly magnet. Glad you enjoyed the image; thanks for the commentary.
