Wisteria

A set of favorite plants to play with, these four wisteria were originally pried loose from a small jungle next to the garage of Ye Olde Photographer's parents' house during a yard cleanup project. After several years in training tubs, and some occasional blooms, they were one by one placed in bonsai pots.

YOP had the good fortune to be successful on his first attempt when he was inspired to try and get one into bloom for an art show opening in mid-March 2004. There's nothing special, the plants normally spend the winter outdoors tucked into shredded cedar bark mulch. The trick is to get one loose and bring it inside to warmer space about five to six weeks ahead of time.

ID #020 had a nice pair of curving, upswept branches at one time, but took several years to recover from a fall and dessication event in 2008.
ID #021 was the first, and still is the most reliable at blooming. It also has an interesting trunk shape.
ID #039 is the difficult child. Blooming has been unreliable; a double plant with tangled rootage is suspected.
ID #040 has become highly reliable for blooms but was the least interesting shape; slowly being addressed.
