The Strasburg Rail Road is located just east of the town of Strasburg, Pennsylvania. The railroad is the oldest continuously operating short line in the United States, incorporated in 1832.
The railroad depot is located directly across the street, Pa 741, from the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, and just down the road is the National Toy Train Museum<, if you like railroading, Strasburg is the place to go!
This visit was on a weekday in April when Ye Olde Photographer was not only impressed they were running a few excursion trips, but that they were using a steam locomotive to do it. Our little group went for the modest extra charge to ride the rather spiffy lounge car and were able to sip a Merlot as we watched Lancaster County farms glide by outside. The railroad is a participant in recognizing and preserving the agricultural heritage of the area.
