In the mid-1800s Kutztown was to be linked to the Allentown & Auburn railroad, but there were a bunch of ups and downs over more than a decade and much of the original intended route didn't happen. What did happen was a spur from Topton off the major line operating from Reading, Pennsylvania to Allentown. That line had the Allentown name early on, became the East Penn Branch of the Reading Railroad, later merged into Conrail and is now part of the Norfolk-Southern.
Kutztown was home to some manufacturing and also a state teachers college which is now evolved into a state university. There are eating places and events like an annual fair which likely provide passenger traffic in the heyday of railroads.
There is now a small effort at a tourist line that operates eastward from here, but it has a very sparse schedule. In September 2022, while passing through Kutztown, Ye Olde Photographer stopped and exercised his iPhone 13 Pro. The station was built in 1870 and is nicely maintained, with details like an authentic "Long Distance by AT&T" sign.
The station area is bounded by Pine and Railroad Streets north and south, and Peach and Main Streets east and west.
On Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day (28 April 2024), Ye Olde Photographer stopped here again with his 8x10 pinhole camera and also his Yashica Mat 124G.
