Saratoga Spa State Park provides recreational facilities, educational trails and the Roosevelt Baths, as well as the Performing Arts Center which among other actions, has the Philadelphia Orchestra in residence for five or six weeks each summer. One trail, along Geyser Creek, provides information on the history of the springs. These supplied naturally carbonated water which built enough pressure underground to force it up to the surface if the rock was drilled and a pipe installed. The acidity of the water dissolved and brought along all sorts of minerals. There are springs along the trail that one can taste. Different springs have different mineral content and some are pretty spicy, an acquired taste at best. Decades back the waters were used both internally and externally for treating various physical ailments.
The park adjoins an inn and a golf course, has a number of still-functioning springs, trails, playgrounds and other recreational facilities.
We have been to this park before, so we did a relatively short pass one evening. Of particular interest was the trail around the springs which has been recently remodeled and upgraded. It is quite an interesting walk.
