When this building was first established, gambling was illegal, so it was called a "club." But it had bars and roulette wheels and certainly played the part of a casino. It has a long and colorful history. The great gaming rooms were in a very opulent English style originally. After the untimely death of the founder, the new owner added another major wing, this time in an Italianate style with columns and vaulted ceilngs. Today it is referred to as the Canfield Casino, named for its second owner. You can find some history here.
Today it is a museum focusing on the history of Saratoga Springs. So there is no longer gambling, but you can arrange to have private events in some of the space. We chose to visit on a day that was a bit dreary and drizzly for outdoor activity.
