On Thanksgiving Day 2011, we took a warm and sunny day to try out a trail right out of the Skyland complex, where we were staying. We began with the Little Stony Man bridle trail which intertwines with the hiking trail. Near the rock outcropping the trail connects with the Appalachian Trail which we took for our return. One point on this AT section is the highest elevation for the trail in the entire Shenandoah National Park, ascending to 3837 feet (1170 meters).
