Mill Prong Trail takes off from the Appalachian Trail a few yards east of where it crosses Skyline Drive below Big Meadows at mile 52.8. It is a round trip of about 1.4 miles with some moderate grades. Like many trails off Skyline Drive, a round trip begins downhill and ends uphill. The walk can be extended to President Hoover's Rapidan Camp, another 1.3 miles each way. We did this hike on Friday of the 2012 Turkey Day weekend; it was late and chilling down so we stuck to the short version. Paralleling a stream, this would likely be a nice hike on a hot summer day.
