Salford Station Road crossed over the Perkiomen Branch railroad tracks via a substantial wooden timber bridge. By 2006 the bridge was closed to traffic as unsafe. In March 2011, Ye Olde Photographer learned of its imminent demolition and tried to record some of the before, during, and after views.
In March of 2011 Ye Olde Photographer heard from a township employee that the bridge was to be replaced by a concrete structure using some pre-fabricated sections. So he was a might surprised in August 2011 to find no bridge. Instead, the elevation of Salford Station Road was dropped a bit and the trail was ramped up on each side to create a grade crossing. YOP can easily believe that resulted in a significant cost reduction, but he is a bit disappointed there is yet another road crossing. Especially since there is another crossing only about 200 yards north. the project was completed by October 2011.
