In August 2022, Ye Olde Photographer became aware of some railroad related items of interest in Minersville, a town in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvnia, just west of Pottsville. There is a well-constructed train station there that went into service in 1913. At one point in the early 1920s, passenger traffic reached 24 arrivals and departures a day.
Currently found next to the station, there is a former Central Railroad of New Jersey 0-6-0 steam locomotive. It is perhaps most amazing, by 2013 the locomotive was restored to the point it could be operated! At the end of November 2014 #113 ran double-headed with Reading & Northern #425 running some Santa Specials. A 2015 video of a trip with just #113 is found here. It also ran Santa trips in 2021.
Acquisition of the locomotive and cars and restoration work has been a long labor of love and creativity by a group, Railway Restoration Project 113. The station building and former Reading Railroad track is owned by the Reading & Northern.
