Mercersburg Inn

Ye Olde Photographer doesn't normally do too much photography of the places he stays in while traveling, but for the Mercersburg Inn he made an exception. Besides being our home away from home for four nights, this building - once a private home -- was an incredible space to spend time in. The place was built in 1910 by Ione and Harry W. Byron whose family had a very successful tanning company that produced fine leathers. The property covers more than five acres with mature trees and the remains of some formal gardens. There are four floors of spaces from guest rooms to game room and bar. Though not original, the furnishings and decorating are sympathetic to the very early 1900s when the house was was built. There are formal panoramic photos available at the Inn website for those who would like better lit representations.

Breakfast was included with the rooms and Jim, one of the owners, puts out a quite elegant and respectable spread. YOP's weight loss efforts suffered a bit of a setback. There is a restaurant at the Inn, Byron's Dining Room, which provides service for dinner on Thursday through Sunday. The restaurant is open to the public, and based on our Thanksgiving Day meals (we did not all select a traditional turkey menu), the food is excellent and well served.

Other interesting happenings at the inn over the course of a year include cheese making, quilting and beer tasting events.
