Ligonier is located along US Route 30, the Lincoln Highway. The town grew up near the site of Fort Ligonier which played a part in the French & Indian War. In the late 1800s the town became a resort area for people from the Pittsburgh area and it remains a tourist area, with the Seven Springs Mountain Resort near by. As such there are a surprising number of shops and eating places in this small, picturesque town.
There are a number of festive events over the summer months and concerts in "The Diamond," the village square/park in the center of the historic district.
