One of the mid-sized lakes in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, Keuka Lake is a Y-shaped body of water surrounded by beautiful mountains covered with a mix of farms, woods and grape vineyards. A short visit in 2013 was not blessed with picture postcard weather. In spite of that it was a nice get-away during which we enjoyed a little bit of hiking and a number of good meals. On our way back home we visited the Corning Museum of Glass.
We sampled eating places in the lakeside towns of Hammondsport and Penn Yan and enjoyed a return visit to Bully Hill Vineyards where we ate a gourmet lunch on a deck overlooking acres and acres of grapes. The winery has a museum that covers the history of wine making in the area and also displays the barrel making tools and equipment used in a cooper shop a century or so back.
