Julia Galloway

Held at Montgomery County Community College, 29 September 2007.

Julia Galloway has a very fine website that tells much about her interests and background. At the time of this workshop she was an Associate Professor and Chair of the School for American Crafts at RIT in Rochester, New York. She does workshops and exhibitions all over the US.

Besides her obvious skill as a potter, Julia has an engaging personality and an infectious sense of humor. Her presentation at MCCC was a delightful experience for the sizable number of ceramics devotees who attended.

Actual pieces worked on included a large pitcher, a saltcellar, some cups and several pulled handles of very unusual design. The afternoon portion was devoted to surface decoration. Ms. Galloway covered a fantastic assortment of additive and subtractive techniques with slip and resists.

(For any viewers wondering about the paintings looking over the festivities, this event was held in one of the painting studios for logistical and scheduling reasons.)
