The Caves

The brewery sits on a hillside. Since there was no mechanical refrigeration in 1831, tunnels ("caves") were dug
underground to store the product. These stay around 50º F year round. Since Pottsville's main industry was coal mining,
getting tunnels dug through rock was not a problem. In some parts of the world, natural caves would have been used.
