Dissection

At some point in its history, Union Pacific cut away
parts of this diesel-electric locomotive to use it as
a mechanical training aid. It was a General Electric U28C
with turbo-charged 16 cylinder engine rated at 2800 HP.
This end shows the generator portion with massive cables
that supplied power to the traction motors in the axles.
